It took two tries to connect my S7 MaxV Ultra review unit to the Roborock app, but the process is simple. Finally, press and hold the power button on the robot before manually placing it on the dock to charge. Next, remove, fill, and reinsert the clean water tank. Then, remove the protective packaging from the Ultra Dock, click the ramp into place, and plug the power cord into the wall.

Next, find a spot for the Ultra Dock Roborock recommends setting it up in an area with good Wi-Fi coverage, at least 1.6 feet away from objects on either side, and 4.9 feet away from anything in front of it. Roborock says this design choice improves privacy, and allows the S7 MaxV Ultra's mop, located on the back of the robot, to dry.ĭuring the Ultra Dock setup process, you must remove a tiny plastic door that covers the air inlet The Roborock model enters its dock camera-first, so it needs to exit before it can show useful footage. The Ecovacs model has a slight advantage here its camera faces out when the robot docks, and can capture photos and videos from there. They also support two-way audio, so you can speak to and hear your pets, or anyone in your home. In addition to floor cleaners, the X1 Omni and S7 MaxV Ultra both function as roving security cameras, letting you remotely monitor your home from your phone. When just vacuuming, the robot automatically increases its suction power over carpeting. The S7 MaxV Ultra's VibraRise technology goes a step further-when the robot detects carpet while mopping, it raises the mopping plate about 5mm, allowing it to mop your hard floors and vacuum your low- to medium-pile carpets in a single pass.

Most two-in-one robots with a carpet sensor, including the X1 Omni, automatically avoid carpet and area rugs when mopping so as not to get them wet. The S7 MaxV Ultra also features the unique VibraRise intelligent mopping system Roborock first introduced on the S7+, a feature that enables more efficient cleaning runs than the competition. For this review, the company sent me the Ultra model with the Empty Wash Fill Dock. The "Ultra" in its name refers to the new Empty Wash Fill Dock (aka the Ultra Dock) that the company launched alongside this model. Roborock also sells the S7 MaxV as a standalone unit with a traditional charging base instead of the Ultra Dock for $859.99. The S7 MaxV Ultra is Roborock's most expensive and advanced model to date. Although the S7 MaxV Ultra has slightly better mopping performance, the X1 Omni narrowly wins our Editors' Choice award thanks to its bacteria-fighting hot-air mop-drying feature and its intuitive built-in voice assistant. With strong suction power, good battery life, and other premium features such as AI-powered obstacle avoidance, a camera for remote home monitoring, and a unique mop-lifting feature, the S7 MaxV Ultra is one of the most advanced floor-cleaning robots available alongside the $1,549 Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni. The $1,399.99 Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, for instance, is capable of emptying its own dustbin after vacuuming, washing its own cloth after mopping, and refilling its water tank when it runs out. Self-emptying robot vacuums were a major revelation when they first started to appear a few years ago, and the latest high-end models are even lower maintenance.
